Liezhi fabrics裂织布, in Japan called Sakiori, in Turkey called Kilim, is the earliest up-cycling fabric made from old fabrics and garments torn into thin strips and woven into clothing and other daily use fabrics. Liezhi can be found widely used in many minority groups in China, from the Miao, Zhuang, Yi, Lisu, to the Dai and other groups. Different groups incorporate different techniques and color designs into Liezhi fabrics.

The vintage Liezhi fabrics are sourced from the Dai ethnic group in the Yunnan province. Dai women historically designed the Liezhi fabric for their wedding ceremonies. Now, people apply vintage fabrics to creative designs, from garments and accessories to interior design. With the promotion of vintage Liezhi, local Dai people have started to weave new Liezhi to meet the market demands.
